KUALA LUMPUR: Local non-profit organisation Rainbow of Life Forces (ROLF) will be conducting its third Gold Ribbon Campaign – the “Grant A Wish” programme over the next three months to benefit at least a thousand needy children.

“We hope to grant a thousand wishes this year and will publish the wish list of needy children on our website on Sept 19,” said Adelyn Lim (pic), managing director of the CreatiVision Group of Companies, which initiated ROLF as their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in 2007.

“There are three types of children – the underprivileged, the disabled and those in need of medical treatment or surgery. Members of the public can choose to fulfill a specific wish by filling in and submitting a form. This will be followed by wish-granting ceremonies every Saturday and Sunday throughout November.”

Items wished for could be beds and mattresses, books and stationary, cookware, clothing and footwear, electrical appliances, food, medical or healthcare products, personal accessories, toiletries, toys, games and musical instruments, and these items could either be specially bought or donated.

“We also want the children to receive the gifts personally from the donors,” said Lim, adding that for children who require medical treatment or surgery, donations can be offered to fund their needs.

“In our first wish-matching campaign in 2009, we helped fulfill the wishes of 400 children from eight orphanages. Last year, it was 1,100 children from 13 homes and each year, this campaign is timed in conjunction with Universal Children’s Day on Nov 20.”

ROLF has seven types of campaigns, named after colours of the rainbow. The other six are Blue Ribbon (childhood cancers), Orange (youth social responsibility), Green (environmental education, tobacco and drugs free), Yellow (psychological and health needs), Red (heart diseases), and Purple (child abuse, neglect and sex exploitation).

Aimed at giving hope to all children regardless of race, religion or background, ROLF concentrates mainly on lesser-known orphanages in the Klang Valley by organising special events for them.

In May this year, the Green Ribbon campaign was held in conjunction with World ‘No Tobacco’ Day, and 40 children from four children’s homes were taken on a two-day camping trip to Penang Hill where they were taught outdoor survival skills and basic first aid.
