Lim is inviting the public to buy gifts for the underprivileged children based on a wish list Rofl has compiled.

SPORTS shoes, toys, clothes and watches may seem like ordinary items belonging to a child, but for some underprivileged children, these were on their wish list.

Rainbow of Life Forces (ROLF) aims to make these children’s wishes come true by inviting the public to contribute through the eighth Gold Ribbon Grant-A-Wish Campaign.

Its founder Adelyn Lim believes that doing charity does not necessarily mean one will need to dig deep into their pockets.

“Instead of the usual charity dinners, we found a way for everybody regardless of their financial status to help the less privileged.

“There are many people who want to do some good but do not know how to go about it.

“Buying whole dinner tables in charity dinners may be a costly affair for the middle-income group.

“We want to bridge this gap,” she said at the campaign launch.

Also present was long-time ROLF supporter, businessman Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin.

Lim said the organisation had identified 465 children from shelter homes and poor families in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang to benefit from the campaign this year.

“From my charity work, I realise that sometimes it is not food that they need.

“There are many donors who donate food items and provisions, that some homes find it hard to use it before its expiry.

“Different homes have different needs, and I advise those who want to help shelter homes to consult the caretakers first.

“For this campaign, I want to bring a spark of joy to the children by buying them something that they want.

“You will be surprised to see that all they need are basic things.

“Some asked for school bags, toiletries, stationery and books,” she said.

She emphasised that donors were also required to come for the gift handover ceremony which would be held on Oct 9 in Kuala Lumpur and Oct 16 in Penang.

“We do not accept cash. Those who want to make a difference should be able to allocate some time to shop for these children and present the gifts themselves.

“We want the donors to personally meet and give the gifts to the children.

“This is to encourage the bonding between them.

“The donors will feel the joy of giving and the children will learn about gratitude,” she explained.

In conjunction with ROLF’s 10th anniversary, the organisation is calling youths below 25 years old from higher learning institutions to take part in a motivational conference.

“ROLF Youth: Inspiration and Aspiration” conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 9, before the gift presentation ceremony.

“We have a line-up of successful personalities, including National Film Development Corporation Malaysia director-general Datuk Kamil Othman, former National Aeronautics and Space Admini-stration (jet propulsion laboratory) senior project engineer Dr Chuang Kwang Li and Suria FM senior presenter and assistant manager Roslinda Abdul Majid or better known as DJ Lin, who will speak about their journey to success.

“We are going to make it fun and entertaining.

“Admission is free but prior registration is required because seats are limited.

“The only request is for all attendees to bring a gift for each of the underprivileged children who will be at the venue after the conference,” said Lim.

Those who want to buy a gift for a child under the Gold Ribbon Grant-A-Wish Campaign can view the wish list at www.rolfcommunity.org and submit a form with their selection.

The wish matching process will be completed by Oct 3 and the donor will be contacted and given a confirmation slip on their selection.

All gifts must be new and not more than RM300.

Those who want to take part in the conference can also get details and register at the same website, call 019-272 0999 or 03-6250 3999 or email wishes@rolfcommunity.org
